IN ARCTIC WILDS

MORE ANDREE RELICS. ILL-FATED EXPEDITION. There are still many articles to be found in the camp of the ill-fated Andree expedition on the lOnely White Island in the Arctic. This year the island was visited by two expeditions, one an official scientific SwedishNorwegian expedition under the leadership of Professor Ahlnian and the other a private hunting expedition organised by the Frenchman, Dr. Miccard. The cook of the latter expedition is a German-born restaurant manager living in Oslo, Mr. G., Doebler. Mr. Doebler is fond of hunting ih the Arctic, and takes jobs every summer as a cook on private expeditions to the Arctic to satisfy his bent for this sort of sport. In this way he has visited the Arctic for 25 years in succession. When Dr. Miceard’s ship called at White Island this summer Mr. Doebler undertook an examination of Andree’s cimp by himself and found a camera, a sock, a knitted woollen cap, part of which looked like a collar of a jacket spotted with blood, and a piece of human bone. Mr. Doebler says that, owing to tho high temperature in the Arctic this summer, the ice had become so soft that he could dig these articles out of the ice with the aid of an ordinary pocket knife. Embedded deep under the ice ho could see the skin and remains of an ice bear, which was probably killed by Andree and used for food. •
