SHEEP PRICES

KEEN DEMAND. BTOBTFOBD LODGE SALE. There was a keen demand for store sheep at Stortford Lodge yesterday, in great contrast to the sale at Waipukurau on the previous day, when buyers seemed to be utterly indifferent. Three thousand six hundred stores were disposed of yesterday in a few minutes, auctioneers having no difficulty in getting a starting bid. The class of sheep offered were mostly station drafts of wethers and ewes, sent in for absolute sale. This gave buyers confidence, and vendors may be congratulated on receiving satisfactory prices. The district generally has been relieved of large quantities of stock by freezing companies; therefore, it is reasonable to expect that there should be a free demand at future sales for al] classes of sheep., At the same time, the present outlook does not warrant any optimism in looking for * rise in prices. Prices for dairy stock were much en a par with recent sales, but heifers close to profit still find buyers at much about spring prices. BROKERS’ REPORTS A full yarding of fat cattle, including a good proportion of cow and heifer beef, came forward at Stortford Lodge yesterday. Ox beef sold at prices on a par with last week’s report, but cow and heifer beef was slightly easier Fat sheep were yarded in good num bers, all lines selling at late rates. Store sheep were well represented, included being a good offering of 2 and 4- wethers, which sold at increased rates on last week’s values, under keen competition.
