ELSTHORPE

SPORTS CLUB MEETING. The Sports Club held a meeting recently at which there were over 30 members present. Mr Wilder was in the chair. It was decided to include four events for wrestling, for which Mi Orbell donated a cup, and Mr Wilder a miniature for most points. It was proposed that Messrs Wilder, Orbell and Priest meet tho Domain Board to arrange the grounds for the boxing and wrestling events. There will bo two events for boxing for boys, which should be very attractive. The programme has been revised and and promises to be as good as previous years. The running events are the same as last year, and should draw a good field of competitors. The judges are the same as last year, and have always given every satisfaction. Mr Orbell has made all arrangements for the Highland Band, so given a fine day, the sports should be a great success and the public can look for ward to a good day’s outing. The monthly meeting of the school committee was held on Monday evening. when tho following were present: —Messrs A. MeGaffin (chairman), Macaulay, Priest, Duncan and Suther land. The chairman stated that the school had been visited by Messrs Maddison and Boland who went into the matter of improving the aceommoda tion. It was decided to hold the picnic and school sports on December 18, in the Domain. Owing to tho economic stress/ it was decided to dispense with prizes this year, but tho usual cash prizes will be given for tho sports.
