BOXING

PRIMARY SCHOOLBOYS’ TOURNEY. AT PARKVALE ON FRIDAY. Next Friday evening the pupils of Parkvale School will hold an amateur boxing tournament at the school. For weeks past the boys have been indulging in practice under the supervision of Mr J. Stickland, secretary of the Hawke’s Bay Boxing Association, and Bill Sullivan has been coaching the lads. When the proposal was first mooted over 100 lads entered their names on the list, and the resulting eliminating bouts were full of excitement. The number was brought down to sufficient for about 20 bouts, which will take place on Friday. In addition the two professionals, Bill Sullivan and Len Knuckey, will give exhibitions and one or two prominent amateurs will be seen in action. Altogether the evening should be a splendid one and an open invitation to al! is extended. The first bout starts at 8 o’clock.
