The Mayor of Napier, Mr J. Vigor Brown, has received the following letter from Rear-Admiral Blake, commanding H.M.S. Diomede, which was recently at Napier:—“H.M.S. Diomede, at sea, December 2, 1931. Your Worship, on tho departure of H.M.S. Diomede, I wish to convey to you and the citizens of Napier the pleasure which it has given us to visit Napier again and see for ourselves the way in which the work of reconstruction has been pushed forward. Please accept our best wishes for the future. It is a great personal regret to me that I will not have the opportunity of visiting Napier before I give up my command in April next. I will carry home with me many happy recollections of my friends there, and I will not forget what I saw of courage and discipline in your time of trouble. Yours truly, Geoffrey Blake, Rear-Admiral.”
