SYDNEY BOMB THREATS

SIX HOMES MENTIONED JUDGES AND DETECTIVES Plans to bomb the home of two Judges and four detectives in Sydney were disclosed in an anonymous letter to police headquarters recently. A day-and-night vigil was afterwards kept over the threatened houses. The Judges were reported to be Judge Armstrong and Judge Curlewis, although both stated that they had not been informed of the threat, says the “Sydney Telegraph.” The communication was received shortly after Judge Armstrong sentenced 16 Communists involved in the Bankstown eviction riot and His Honour was approached immediately by the police with offers of an escort to his home and a guard over the house. He refused both, but it is probable that the police provided a watch over his home without it being suspected. The letter revealed that a gang was plotting to bomb the houses, and the police, while not fuljy convinced of the accuracy of the information, felt nevertheless that in view of the Melbourne bombings the matter could not be regarded lightly.
