CANCER FUND
ART UNION DRAWN SUCCESSFUL PRIZE-WINNERS. MANY H.B. NAMES. Wellington, Nov. 8. The names of the first, second and third prize winners of £2OOO, £5OO and £250 respectively were not available when the numbers were announced at the drawing of the Cancer Fund art union on Saturday evening. In the case of the first, the name given was merely “Adeen,” Waikouaiti. In the case of the second only the initials Mrs “E S. ”, Papanui, Christchurch, were written, and in the case of the third the butt had been burnt in a fire at New Plymouth and the prize will be paid over on production of the ticke+ itself.
The art union was held for the gen oral purposes of the New Zealand branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society. It is anticipated that as the result, there will be a sub stantial sum available.
Before th e draw began a large audi ence in the Town Hall concert chamber was addressed by the secretary and treasurer of the New Zealand branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society, Mr R. Darroeh, in the unavoidable absence of the chairman (Dr J. S. Elliott). He thanked the publii for the very generous response to the appeal. Mr Darroch paid a tribute to the work of the organisers and also thanked the press throughout the Dominion for the pub licity accorded the cancer campaign.
