At Newport, in the semi-finals, Perry defeated Wood by default. Perry led 6—3, 5—7, 2—6, 6—l, 6—5, and needed a single point for victory when Wood suffered severe leg cramp. Vines defeated Van Ryn, 6—3, 7—9, 3—6, 6—2, 6—l. At Forest Hills, Betty Nuthall defeated Josephine Cruickshauk (California) 6—3, 6—2, giving the British four of the eight quarter-final places.
