At Forest Hills, in the third round, Mrs. Shepherd Barron defeated Mrs. Jessup, 6—B, 6—o, 6—3, defeating the match begun on Wednesday; Mrs. Mudford defeated Sarah Palfrey, 6—2, 7—5. At Newport, in the semi-finals, Perry defeated Wood by default. Perry led 6—3, 5—7, 2—6, 6—l, 6—5, and needed a single point for victory when Wood suffered severe leg cramp. Vines defeated Van Ryn, 6—3, 7—9, 3—6, 6—2, 6—l. At Forest Hills, Betty Nuthall defeated Josephine Cruickshauk (California) 6—3, 6—2, giving the British four of the eight quarter-final places. In the doubles, Misses Round and Jacobs defeated Mrs Pittman and Miss Ridley 6—3, 6—3; Mrs Shepherd Barron and Miss Mudford defeated Florence Leboutillier (Westbury) and Barbarn Stoddard (New York) 6 —2, 6—l; Miss Whittingstall and Miss Nuthall defeated Wightman and Edith Sigourney (Boston) 6—2, 6—2. At Newport, in the second round of the doubles, Perry and Hughes defeated Gilbert Hall and Ed Fieldman (New York) 6—3, 6—3.
