HAWKS BREAKS ANOTHER RECORD

HAVANA-NEW YORK FLIGHT. News has been received in New Zealand that Captain Frank M Hawks, superintendent of the Aviation Division of the Texas Company, who recently established new American west-east and east-west records with the racing monoplane “Texaco 13,” set up new figures for the run from Havana, Cuba, to Roosevelt Field, Long Island, New York. He covered the distance, 1400 miles, in 8 hours 44 minutes, and averaged a ml of 190 miles per hour. There were two stops for fuel. The first was at Miami, Florida, which was reached in 2 hours 33 minutes. Ten minutes later Hawks winged his wav north at a speed of nearly three miles per minute. He reached Charlotte, N.C.. in 3 hours 40 minutes, nnused 26 minutes and then pushed forward on the last leg of 600 miles nt n speed better than 200 miles per hour. Captain Hawks said that at no time during the two flights was the ‘‘Texaco 13” flying at top speed. The ship was capable of a sustained speed of 245 miles per hour.
