PARKE ISLAND HOME

A CHEERFUL GATHERING.! On Christmas Eve at the Parke Island Home there was a cheerful gathering of the inmates for the customary glass of ale, and once more the old familiar greeting, “A Merry Christmas,” was exchanged. _ To the aged and infirm, sadness, in some measure, comes with increasing years; but just so long as one holds on tn that valuable asset, ‘.‘cheerfulness,’’ life is worth while. Happily there was no one so unwell but could not relax a little. On Christmas morning there was a distribution of seasonable presents; in fact, the old people were the recipients of a very large and varied lot of useful articles. In the women’s quarters Miss Anderson had quite a remarkable collection of pretty things (to divide amongst the wards. Miss Anderson also arranged the table decorations, whjch were a work of art and a delight, while Mr. A. M’ilson, dining-room attendant, was responsible for the overhead work and secured a very pretty effect. The bill of fare was very attractive. Under the care of Sister Seaton the infirmary ward looked very bright and cheerful owing to the tasteful decorations in mauve and rose on a background of evergreens. _ Over the doorways ornamented lettering peeped out of clusters of greenery and spoke a kindiv greeting. Sister Seaton and her staff of the sick ward, who spared no nains in their efforts on hehalf .of their patients, are to be con■rntiilnted. Me- Hw-Clmpman and his staff had a very busy day and their kindiv attentions were rewarded with many pleasing acknowledgments. while Mr Aalloa. the conk, scored quite a number of compliments. At the dinner hour Messrs A. E Bedford and H. Hill palled and bail a word to say for their colleagues on the Parke Island Committee, when there was much cheering s.nd merrimwit.
