ACROSS THE TASMAN
YACHT’S CRUISE PLANNED. RACE MAY EVENTUATE. [United Press Association-By CableCopyright.) (Received 29, 9.55 a.m.} Melbourne, Dec. 28. Mr. F. J. Bennell, owner of the yacht Oimara. states that nothing definite has been arranged concerning the race across the Tasman. Stacey, of Christchurch, has withdrawn, but a Wellington yachtsman has since been in communication with him on the subject. Mr. Bennell has decided to sail over to New Zealand, leaving Melbourne for Auckland about January 10. The crew will consist of a navigator. also Mr. Pennell and his son, and possibly two more. Ths Oimara is now being overhauled for the trip. In October members of the yncht Oimara’g crew stated that a trip from Sydney was •made to prove that the Oimara was seaworthy and capable of undertaking a cruise to New Zealand in the proposed race across the Tasman Sea. "We could not find one challenger in Sydney," they said, "to race across. They all seemed to. regard the trip as too dangerous.”
