'CANTERBURY MARKETS. Christchurch, June 27. It is reported that the wheat pool has offered 2,000,000 bushels of the next season’s Tuscan wheat to the millers at 5s 6d a bushel on .trucks. Apart from this there is little interest in the market, practically all the “free” wheat having been realisd and the pool is the chief holder. Fowl wheat remains firm at 6s f.o.b. S.I. The oats market is slightly firmer and for the first time for a long period local oats were offered and sold. Tlie quotation for A Gartons from the South to-day is 3s lid to 4s f.o.b. 5.1., for spread delivery, and 3s lOd f.o.b. S.I. for prompt. B’s are quoted at 3s 9d f.oob, 5.1., for prompt delivery, and for spread the quotation is a little in excess of that figure. A Gartons locally have been bought at 4s 2d f.o.b. 5.1., equivalent to 3s 9Jd on trucks, and B’s at 4s Id f.o.b. S.l. t equal to 3s on trucks. There is a great scarcity of Algerians, which in former seasons were so often in over supply. To-day They are practically unprocurable. Chaff is firm at late rates with business dull. 'The quotation for prompt delivery is £7 a ton f.o.b. S.I, equivalent to about £5 5s on trucks for July-August-September delivery, The quotation is a little better than the above figures. There is very little alteration in the potato market. Growers are inclined to hold and any offer to be acceptable must be £4 a ton on truck and some have refused £4 ss. The Auckland market early in the week firmed 5s a ton, consequent upon supplies being cleared, but the Waimarino leaves to-night for that port with a caigo of between 4000 and 5000 sacks of potatoes. The Katoa left earlier in the week with a like quantity for Auckland. Quotations to-day in Cashel street are £4 15s to £4 17s Gd for prompts, £5 5s to £5 7s QI for Julys. and £5 12s 6d to £5 15s for july-August-September f.o.b. S.I.

There was an extensive clearing sale held yesterday at the Waipukurau sale yards of Mr E. J. White’s dairy herd, Messrs de Pclichct, McLeod and Co. acting as auctioneers. The attendance was fair, and buyers from the surrounding districts had no trouble in satisfying their various desires from the 180 cows and heifers offering. The bidding was not brisk, although on the better class of dairy cows some fair prices were realised. The salo commenced at 11 a.m. and it was not until 4.15 p.m. that the last beast was sold. All were sold separately and a word of praise is to be awarded the auctioneer. Mr Brandon, whoso task was particularly strenuous, on the successful way in which the salo was conducted through out. The highest price realised was £l3 5s for a second calver. The aver age price for the cows, numbering 149 was £6 16s and for the heifers (36) £3 ss. The cows and heifers were in calf to purebred Jersey bulls, all of which were sold under -tho. hammer.
