“MOST DISMAL”
PREMIER'S FINANCIAL STATEMENT. MR SAVAGE’S CRITICISM. (From Our Special Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, June 28. The recent statement of the Prime Minister’! dealing with the finance* of the country was criticised in the House of Representatives last night by Mr Savage (Lab., Auckland w7), who described it as “a jpost dismal statement.” , Mr H. T, Armstrong (Lab., Christchurch E): A sunshine statement. Mr Savages I could not see much sunshine in it. I should have thought that at this stage the policy of the Government would have been to expand business and speed things up, rather than to dq the very opposite thing. Mr Savage asked how the Government was going to meet its financial responsibilities if the Government was going to minimise its responsibilities and cut things down to tbe very lowest level. The ony thin he could see that were on the increase were soup kitchens and doss houses How were they going to rectify things when the Prime Minister put tip a dismal cry about the financial position of the country P
