HASTINGS ORPHANS
FOUBTH KOBEBO HELD. SKETCH CLUB MAKES ITS DEBUT. There were over 200 members present at the fourth korero or the Hastings Orphans’ Club held in the Assembly Hall last evening, when Past Chief Orphan H. W. C. Baird presided. Tho recently-formed Sketch Club made its debut, and presented two short humorous playettes entitled ‘‘The Cure” and ‘‘Airs Hamblett Records Her Vote.” Both pieces met with a splendid reception and afforded the members something new in the way of entertainment. All those who took a part in the sketches were novices but under the able coaching of Orphan L. Fail they gave a very credi table showing. Tho Harmonica Mouth Orgau Band, another of the club’s organisations, also provided very welcome novelty items. The orchestra, under the baton of Conductor C. Byrant, was in fine fettle and. rendered four difficult selections in a wonderful manner. Other items on the programme were also of a high standard and fully appreciated, the contributors being: Orphan R. Scott (vocal), Chief Orphan J. Bewley and Orphan R. Roberts (vocal ducts), Orphan V. Mummery (violin solos), Orphan B. Sandes (vocal solos).
