ROAD WANTED. FOR HASTINGS WEST’ For a ntuuber of years the Hastings West. School Committee has been endeavouring to secure a road to connect Joll road with Gordon road. Last evening the council received a letter from the committee pointing out this fact and also that it was possible that the assistance of the council might be solicited in the matter. Reviewing the efforts of the committee in the matter, the letter explained that the lute Messrs. Hickey and Banniityne had agreed to give tho necessary land to make a chainwide road, but the owner (Mr. Wilkie) of the shingle pit in Joll road would not agrpe to give the necessary land to make it possible to put the road through. The Hastings West Development Association had made unsuccessful negotiations for the purchase of Mr. Wilkie’s section. In the meantime, however, Mr. Henderson purchased the late Mr. Hickey’s property and he allowed the school children from the Joll road district to use his property as a thoroughfare, but, owing to some of the children interfering with his stock, he has prevented them from using this short cut. The Development Association, at its last meeting, decided to again endeavour to obtain this much-needed road, and it was because of this decision that the School Committee wrote to the council pointing out the possibility of the council’s support being solicited. The letter was received.
