TIMBER IMPORTATIONS

QUESTIONS IN THE HOUSE. “DUMPING” oFoREGON PINE. (From Our Special Parliamentary Reporter). Wellington, June 27. The srjgestion that large quantities of Oregon pine were being “dumped” into New Zealand was made in the H *ise of Representatives yesterday by Mr. W. E. Barnard (Napier) and Mi-. H. M. Campbell (Hawke’s Bay). The Prime Minister (Hon. G. W. Forbes) stated that the whole question of timber imputations was at present being considered by the Government. Mr. Barnard, in drawing attention to the matter, said that at the present time there werp 500,000 superficial feet of. Oregon pine being unloaded at the port of Napier. Mr. Campbell asked if the Prime Minister would take immediate action in regard to the “dumping” of Oregon pine into New Zealand. He was credibly informed that large quantities were coming in. The Prime Minister said that the law as it stood allowed the importation of timber into New Zealand. The whole question of the timber industry was under consideration by the Government, and a statement would probably be made to the House during the present session.
