HASTINGS BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Hastings branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held yesterday afternoon, when Mrs Hickmott presided over a good attendance. Devotional exercises were conducted by Mrs Sutherland. Mrs Ross was appointed ujierintendent of the membership roll. It was reported that sick members had been visited. The Temperance Area Conference will be held on July 9 in the Y.M. C.A, (ounge, when Mr Milner and others will speak, and refreshments will be provided. , During an interval Mrs Smith sang a solo. Mrs Baumgart was appointed treasurer in place of Airs Paul. Special meetings are being arranged for the visit of Alias AlcClay, Dominion organiser, to Hastings next week. Airs Bibby, Waipawa, gave a very interesting talk on her experiences whilst touring England, Scotland, America and India, and said that there seemed to be a forward move for temperance in England, The speaker showed many views of old castles, gardens, churches, etc., and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Airs Speight, the district president, introduced two new members. Afternoon tea brought the meeting to a close.
