SouL lin) received a deputation representing the goldfields communities of the Commonwealth, who asked the Government to provide a bonus of twenty shillings for every ounce of gold produced in the Commonwealth within the next ten years. The deputation urged that a bonus would stimulate the gold industry and would also help to solve the unempoyment problem. Mr Scullin replied that ho waa not impressed with the arguments. A bonus might mean the expenditure of a huge sum with no assurance of a wonderful revival of the mining industry such as had been pictured.
