ENTERTAINING BILLIARDS CLARK McCONACHY IN FORM. HAS NIGHT OF SUCCESS IN HASTINGS. Over 150 local billiards enthusiasts were afforded a rare exhibition of billiards in Geor’s Billiard Saloon, Russell street. Hastings, last _ evening, when Clark McConachy. New Zealand’s foremost professional billiard player gave an exhibition match of 1000 up. Conceding W. Dow 600 the champion won easily by 100 to 624, making only six visits to the table. His highest break was 595. and followed this with 185, 85, 47 and 52 unfinished. He afterwards played three games of snooker and won all three. In the first he required a snooker to beat G. Reid and gained it to win 61—56. Breaking up the balls in a match with O. Vidal, he made an opening break of 60 to finally win 69 —13. In the third game R. F. Geor opened with a break of 13 and McConachy potted the remainder of the balls with the exception of a red to win 67—14. He then entertained the spectators with an amazing series of trick shots, based mainly on the principle of the massie. POLO RANELAGH CUP PLAY. The Hawke’s Central Gun Club opened a programme of shoots yesterday in connection with the North Island championships, which commenced in X J almerston North on Monday last with the clay birds. In the first £25 Sparrow Handicap, F. J. Miller took the first prize of £l5, and J. McKinnon. J. Mills and T. Parker the second prize of £lO. In the second £25 Sparrow Handicap, J. Mills took the first prize of £l5, and J. McKinnon. A. Sted, D. McLouchlan, T. Parker, and H. Clinch divided the seornd money of £lO. A ten-bird sweepstake was won by J. McKinnon, who secured all his birds. J. Whittle and H. Clinch, with one miss divided second money. The ten-bird double rise sweepstake was won by A. E. Macredie, who had two misses, H. Clinch. J. Mills and J. McKinnon being next with seven birds. _ • RUGBY FOOTBALL HASTINGS SUB-UNION MEETS. SEVERAL RE-GRADINGS. A meeting of the Hastings Rugby Sub-Union was held last evening, Mi. J. A. Fraser presiding. It was decided to offer the Hawke’s Bay Union the use of movable stands for the occasion of tho Britain v. Hawke’s Bay match. Two M.A.C. players, S. Kani and K. Newton, were re-graded to fourth grado and K. Isaacson (Celtic) was re-graded to junior. The borough superintendent of reserves (Mr. W, W. Adams) advised the Sub-Union that ho would be at Nelson Park between 7.30 o’clock and 9 p.m. every Monday for tho purpose of returning any articles found in tho park.
