NEW APPOINTMENT

TO MALTA ADMINISTRATION. [British Official Wireless.] Rugby, June 13. His Majesty the King has approved the appointment of Mr. Harry Luke, Chief Secretary of Palestine, to he Lieutenant-Governor of Malta, in succession to Sir Thomas Pest, who hns been appointed Governor of Wind ward Island. It was upon Mr. Luke that the responsibility fell of coping with the crisis in Palestine created by the disturbances of the past year. Sir John Chancellor, the High Commissioner, being absent on leave. He now goes to Malta to assist General Sir John Du Cane, the Governor, in n. highly intricate situation which has deve’oped there in connection with the relations with the Vatican, GRAVE SITUATTOON DEVELOPING. (Received 13, 12.20 a.m.) Malta, June 12. The political and religious situation is growing worse daily. The clergy are actively fighting what they term the Government’s anti-religious policy. Religious newspapers joining in the campaigin declare that the past is nothing; the big things are yet to come.
