NOT A STRIKE
STOPPAGE OF WORK AT TAWA FLAT. DISCUSSION OF CONDITIONS. (Per Press association.l Wellington, March 7. The stoppage of work at Tawa Flat was not a strike. It was decided to hold a stop-work meeting to discuss the conditions under which the men are working and as three shifts arc running the stoppage was from midnight to midnight. As a result of the deliberations it was decided that a de putation should endeavour to meet the Public Works Minister on his return from the North next week and place the men’s grievances before him.
An earlier telegram stated: All work on tho Tawa Flat deviation ceas ed at midnight on Wednesday as a result of certain grievances that the men working on the undertaking have against the Public Works Department. The whole question was discussed by the men at a largely-attended stop-work meeting held at Johnson villa yesterday morning, when it was decided that a deputation should endeavour to meet the Minister of Public Works (Hon E. A. Ransom) immediately on his return from the north next week in order to place tho whole of the complaints before him and ask for immediate redress.
