“GIVE EMPIRE TRADE A CHANCE?”

APPEAL TO ENGLAND. [United Press Association—By CableCopyright.] Vancouver, Jan. 4. Under the caption of “Give Empire Trade a Chance,” the “Vancouver Sun” says: “English statesmen have strutted and talked all over the world about the great thing the British Empire is, but never a word or gesture about a definite Empire plan. The British dominions think thev have something really worth while in the thing called Empire. “Let England 1 put a man liko Lord Beaverbrook to work and let him surround himself with practical business, political and financial mechanics like Lord Melchett, Mr. Amery and Mr McKenna, putting the Empire. on the operating tabh to diagnose it and find just what it is, what it can do, and how the component parts can be made to function with each other. “If an Empire of protection, let us determine which of tile dominions will do the protecting and what proportion each dominion will pay for that protection. If a free trade Empire,, let us find with whom we can trade, just what goods we can trade, and on what basis goods can be traded.”
