CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. (Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Waipawa Chamber of Commerce was held on Monday evening. Mr. G. C. Harker was in the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. A letter was received from the Borough Council stating that in the matter of an eastern entrance to Coronation Park, submitted by the Chamber of Commerce for their consideration, the Reserves Committee had been asked to inspect and would report to a meeting of the council.

Mr. O. H. Critchley brought forward the question of the drift of business to the larger towns, and suggested that it would be in the interests of the business people for the Chamber of Commerce to have a discussion of the subject with the Retailers’ Association. As a preliminary to secure the co-operation of the Retailers’ Association it was resolved that a sub-committee consisting of the chairman and secretary arrange for a combined meeting at an early date.

It was resolved that the Chamber of Commerce make the necessary arrangements with the Power Board for coloured lights in the streets at Christmas and the New Year. It was also decider! to draw the attention of the Borough Council te the need for a hand at Christmas ai’i’ New Year, and express the hope that the council would be able to arrange lor the services of a band at that time.

As it had been the custom of the Progressive Association, which has been merged into the Chamber of Commerce, to donate to the District High School a replica in miniature of the Progressive Association’s Cup. donated for perpetual competition for the best girl athlete, it was decided to donate a renlica for the year 1929. Messrs S Dailey. F. Smith and the chairman were unpointed a sub-com-mitto to watch the possibility of land being suitable for closer settlement in the district being acquired by the Government. , The chairman moved that a vote of sympathy be accorded to Mrs L I‘rntlev und family in the death of the late Mr. L. Rratlqy. and in dome so paM a tribute to the energy of the late Mr. Pratlcy in Promoting matter* for the benefit of the town.

Mr. E. C. Walcott, of tho Bank of Now Zealand staff, has resumed duty after his holiday leave.
