PATANGATA COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING. (Special Representative.') The monthly meeting of the Patangata County Council was heli l , at Waipukurau yesterday, the chai r man (Cr. Chas. Pattison) presiding over Councillors Thus. Butler, A. W. 8. Longley, C. R. Edgecombe, A. MeGaffin, R. W. White, E. T. Wild?!, 11. Al Christie, E. C. Nation, and Messis J. W. Eliott (clerk) and J. W. McLauchlaii (engineer) A telegram apologising for absence was received from Cr. Sir George Hunter.

A letter was received from Heta Kani, Porangahau, agreeing to pay one-third of the cost of the erection of a bridge giving access to his property on the Wimbledon road, ana ask ing if the council could see its way clear to allow a portion of the outstanding rates remaining unpaid until 1931.—1 t was decided to refer the matter to tho engineer for a report.

The county’s share of heavy trrffic fees was reported by the 11.8. County Council to bo. £425 4s B<l.

The Elsthorpe Cemetery Trustee advised that the Department of Health had notified the trustees that the fences must be put in order otherwise the cemetery would be closed. As the trustees had no funds, the council was asked to make a grant. Tho amount required would be about £l5 to £2O for the first year, and after that £5 a year should be sufficient.— After some discussion it was resolved to grant £l5 from the funds of the Oero Riding. Arising out of the discussion tho engineer was authorised Co instruct the county caretaker to

carry out improvements at the Porangauau Cemetery.

The Under Secretary, Department of Internal Affairs, wrote with referonce to the petition for the exclusion of certain lands from the borough of Waipukurau. As the Urban f arm Lands Rating Bill was not passed into law last session, the Minister had decided to proceed further with the petitions. The Commission provided for under the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920, would, therefore, be set up at an early date in respect of each petition. £2 2s was granted towards the expenses of the County Sanitary Inspector attending the refresher course next January. The Public Works Department forwarded a cheque for £2447 9s 4d I cing payment in respect to work done on the Dannevirke-Waipukurau via Porangahau highway, £1609 Ids 4/1; Otane-Tuki Tuki, £212 19s 4d; Wai-pawa-Pourerere, £624 19s Bd. Leave of absence was granted to the engineer to attend the N.Z. Society of Engineers’ meeting in February next, if it was found that ho could get away conveniently. The Porangahau Sports Club, asked that the council consider the matter of metalling the road giving access to tho sports ground.—lt was decided to advise the club that the council cculd not make a grant this financial year, but provision would be made no next year’s estimates to allow a £ for £ subsidy.

It was decided, following complaints from drovers, that a drain be put in at the ditch separating the main road and tho Otane stock road. The Waipawa Comity will bear half the cost.

Letters were received from the District Council advising that approval bad been given and monetary authority applied for in connection with Siteman’s road, £5O, £1 for £1: Old Hill road £2OO, £1 for £1; Schaeffer’s road £5O, £1 for £1; Te Uri road £2OO, £1 for £1; and Mangaorapa road £l5O, £1 for £l. With reference to Hokianga’s road, £lOO, £1 for £l, the District Council pointed out that application for a metalling grant only was approved but specification were awaited.

ACCOUNTS. Accounts and wages amounting to £2603 19s 9d on the general account ami £307 15s 5d on the loan account were passed for payment. The position of the various riding accounts was shown as follows:— Eparaima expended £3627 6s, balance £3614 5s 9d; Patangata, expended £339 4s, balance, £2746 14s; Oero, expended £1406 19s lid, balance £1205 16s; Porangahau, expended £3656 7s 4d, balance £1597 19s 8d; Tamumu, expended £6BO 4s lOd, balance £2942 3s 8d; Mangatarata, £632 16s 2d, balance £B5 Ils 6d; Pourerere, expended £1974 ISs 4d, balance £2875 2s 2d. In each instance the balance shown is in credit. Riding accounts amounting to £1330 3s lid were passed for payment
