NAPIER HARBOUR BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. GENERAL BUSINESS. The monthly meeting of the Napier Harbour Board was held in Napier to-day. Present: Messrs. A. E. ■Tull (chairman), G. C. Lowe, N. P. Eriksen, J. E. Jones. W. J. Lyon, E. A. Goodger, J. C. Bryant, P. W. Peters, G. McKay, H. Anderson, B. B. Creagh. and J. H. Joll. Leave of absence was granted Messrs. P. Higgins and J. J. Langridge. A large number of lessees of the board wrote accepting a renewal of their leases for various terms, in some cases the renewals being made under protest owing to the increased rents. In some instances reductions were made. The chairman remarked that the new valuations had been agreed to by the lessees' own valuer, and their protest really amounted to a resolution of no-confidence in him The hoard’s solicitors forwarded a judgment re rates on Quarry Reserve in which it was stated that the area in question was not a harbour work within the exemptions contained in the Rating Act and was therefore liable for rates, —Received.
