The “Morning Post’s” Riga correspondent states that, according to information from Leningrad, there is danger of the death sentence in the case of Princess Sophie Lieven, a sister-in-law of Sir Kynaston Studd, ex-Lord Mayor of London, who was arrested and is now in Lubianka gaol. It is s.ated that she occupied a position at a library and is accused of participation in an antiSoviet conspiracy and in White Guardist wars and will be courtmartialled. According to reports from Moscow her anti-revolutionary activities consisted of holding Sunday schools for the benefit of working class children and reading the Bible. The prosecution is believed to have been instigated by the notorious Anti-God Society. Lady Studd, who is a Russian, said she knew her sister had loyally abided bv the Bolshevik regime and devoted herself to helping the poor. Princess Sophie Lieven is a daughter of the late Prince Paul Lieven, who was Grand Master of Ceremonies at the Russian Imperial Court.
