NAPIER QUEEN ELECTION. SPORTS CANDIDATE STILL LEADING. To-day's placing in the Napier Mardi Grajs Queen election shows the Spoi ls candidate still in the lead with the Te Awa representative in .second place. The contest is becoming keener every day, each organisation endeavouring to have its candidate in the foremost position. Polling will definitely close at 11 p.m. on Saturday, December 21stCOMMITTEE ENTERTAINMENTS. In connection with the Queen election a large number of events have been arranged for the support of the respective candidates. For the Workers’ Queen a euchre tourflament has been arranged in the Coronation Hall, Port Ahuriri, next Saturday night. The ladies’ auxiliary invites all supporters to the Y.M.C.A. Lounge tomorrow afternoon, when they will hold an “at home.” A pleasant afternoon is assured. The Te Awa executive is holding a euchre tourney in Te Awa School tonight, while a dance will be held in the Puketapu Hall on Saturday evening, and a good time is promised. St. Patrick’s committee is holding a fishing contest next Saturday afternoon on the beach opposite the band rotunda. A ham will be awarded the competitor landing the neavjest fish. The Cricket Queen executive Is holding a “500’' tournament in the Lyric Hall (opposite the new Napier .Post Office) on Saturday night. Supper will be provided. The Sports executive invites supporters and the public to meet its queen at the sports meeting to-night on McLean Park. They have also arranged for a. euchro tourney for next Saturday night in the RailwayLibrary. QUARTER-HOUR ENTERTAINMENT. The draw fnr places in the 15-min-utes’ entertainment to-morrow night at the Napier Municipal Theatre is announced'in our advertising columns. A varied programme will be submitted and a voting paper will be issued to every person, who will be asked to vote for the best performance.
