TENNIS MATCH. The Old Girls met the school at tennis, and after several very interesting matches the Old Girls emerged with the honours, having won five games to the school’s two. The results of the various matches were as follow:—
Singles.—Miss M. Budd defeated Miss N. Hickling, 40—30; Miss J. Lovell-Smith lost to Miss Peterson, 36— 40; Miss M. Ashcroft defeated Miss W. Coates, 40—29; Miss D. Spurdlo lost to Miss H. Fendall, 37— 40; Miss N. Coles defeated Miss M. Nelson, 40—30. Doubles.—Misses Budd and LovellSmith defeated Misses Hickling and Peterson, 40—27: Misses Spurdie and Ashcroft defeated Misses Fendall and Nelson. 40—34.
.ON THE TRACK. The athletic events proved popular and attracted a large gathering of interested spectators. There were seven events and the old pupils found that “youth” was too fast for them. However, it was not until the final race that the school came out on top. That they did was due to tho double win in the relay races. The results were as follows:— 100 yards, boys.—Cameron (Old Boys) 1, Apsey (School) 2, Collinge (School) 8. Won by a foot with the same distance between second and third. Five started.
220 yards, boys.—Cameron (Old Boys) 1, Patrick (School) 2, Dyer (School) 3. Won by a yard, with three yards between second and third. Four started.
100 yards, girls—G. Symes (School) 1, E. Morton (Old Girls) 2, H. Fendall (School) 3, A splendid finish, half a yard separating each of the place-getters. Five started.
880 yards, boys.—Spurdie (Old Boys) 1, Hill (School) 2, Taylor (Old Boys) 3. A splendid finish, inches onlj separating tho first and second at the tape. Six started.
75 yards, girls.—G. Symes (School) 1, E. Morton (Old Girls) 2, If. Fendall (School) 3. A yard each way at the tape. Four started. Boys’ rojpy.—School (Taylor, Patrick, Collinge and Apsey) 1, Old Boys (Beamish, Spnrdle, Clifton and Cameron) 2. Won by over 100 yards. Girls’ relay.—School (H. Fendall, M. Gray. V. Nelson and G. Symes) 1, Old Girls (D. Spurdie, E. Mulcaster, M. Ashcroft and E. Morton) 2. Won by eight yards. At the conclusion of the sports the old pupils gathered at school for a “community” tea.
