STEAMER LAWBEATH
AGREEMENT FOR WORKING. N.Z. RATES OF PAY. (Per Press Association.) Dunedin, Nov. 14. , The agreement by’ which the Lawheath is being worked refers ti.the crew of the steamer and provides that the men be paid New Zealand wages and work under New Zealand conditions until the'steamer leaves Port Chalmers The man in prison is to be released and is to rejoin the ship, and the menu is to be in accordance with New Zealand ships. No charges are to be made afterwards against the crew and no loss of wages is to be suf fered as a result of the dispute. A clause is added that the agreement was to be regarded as an isolated case. It is pointed out here that a wider issue is involved —that all ships carrying phosphates from Nauru to New Zealand shall pay New Zealand rates of wages. This has not been agreed to and probably did not come within the scope of the committtee.
