SERIOUS ACCIDENT NARROWLY AVERTED.
ENGINE HITS DELIVERY VAN
A serious accident was narrowly averted at St. Aubyn street railway crossing, Hastings, at about 1.15 p.m. to-day.
A number of luggage trucks were being shunted towards the station when a delivery van, driven by Mr. Gray, pastrycook, travelling from the direction of Russell street, failed to stop before coming into collision with the engine. ; Fortunately, the engine-driver pulled up just as the lorry was partly over the line, the impact twisting the wheels of the vehicle and damaging the mudguard.. The results migbf have been very serious had it been a train travelling at full speed.
