STRUCK BY CAR
WHAKATU LADY INJURED. Mrs Maud Crowley, wife of Mr. L. Crowley, of Whakatu, met with a serious accident at Whakatu at about 5 p.m. on Monday, whereby her left leg was broken. It appears that the lady stepped from a ’bus on the way from Napier at the stopping place near the Riverside wool-scouring works, and was crossing the road at the rear of the ’bus to her home on the opposite side. The ’bus restarted, obscuring the view of cars coming from Hastings, and, as she was watching cars coming from the Napier direction, she did not observe a car coming towards her from Hastings. Just as she stepped clear of the back of the ’bus, she was struck by the Hastings oar and thrown on to the radiator. The car was promptly brought to a halt and Mrs Crowley was carried to her home, where she received medical attention and was taken in the ambulance to the Napier Hospital. On enquiry at the hospital to-day, it was ascertained that the sufferer had passed a very good night and that she was comfortable this morning.
