WATER SUPPLY

HAVELOCK NORTH’S NEEDS. BOROUGH COUNCIL APPROVES OF AGREEMENT. The supply of water by the Hastings Borough Council to the Havelock North Town Board was mentioned at the council meeting last evening, when the council agreed to a new agreement between the two local bodies concerned. The salient features of the new arrangements are that the borough will provide a reservoir and so much of the pumping plant and watermains as shall be necessary for the Town Board to pump and store such water as is required by the board for the inhabitants of its district, and such other firms or persons or corporations as ihe board may from time to time decided to supply. This is that in the case of shortace of water, the Borough Council shall be empowered to call upon the board to cut off and disconnect the supply to the board. It is further provided that in the event of the board at any time not being able to supply its daily requirements, then the municipality will pump such quantity as is required by the board at the rate of 3d for every 1000 gallons. It is also included in the agreement that the Town Board shall pay to the borough the sum of £l2O for the use of the reservoirs. The agreement is dated from the 30th day of December 1928 and shall continue in force until the day of the expiration of the council’s agreement with the Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board.
