BAY OF ISLANDS ELECTION
WILL THERE BE A UNITED CANDIDATES?
PARTY CHAIRMAN GOES NORTH
Auckland, Feb. 27. Mr. A. E. Davy, chairman of the United Political Party, arrived at Auckland by the Limited express. He is going north in connection with the Bay of Islands by-election campaign. Asked if it was the intention of the United Party to put a candidate in the field, Mr. Davy said the question was largely one for the United Patty supporters within the Bay of Islands electorate. It was at the invitation of the Bay of Islands supporters that he was going north. The matter would be fully discussed with them. Two excellent candidates had offered their services to Sir Joseph Ward, added Mr. Davy. It will bo remembered that there was no United candidate in the field at the general election in November. Air. H. Al. Rushbrook, who was declared elected and later unseated by reason of an Electoral Court’s finding on January' 28, voted with the United Party on the crucial division in the House of Representatives which swept the Reform Government out of office. Mr. Rushbrook was the only member of the Country Party with a seat when Parliament assembled in December.
