FIGURES FOR FEBRUARY. HASTINGS AND NAPIER. Vital (Hastingl): Following are the vital statistics for Hastings for February, the figures in parenthesis representing the returns for February, last year:—Births 36 (29), 10 (a). deaths 13 (5). Vital (Napjer)i Vital statistics for Napier for the month of February are as follows, those for the same month in 1928 being shown in parenthesis:—Births 41 (45). deaths 15 (12). and marriages 19 (20). Infect ous Diseases (Hastings): Two cases of infectious diseases were reported in Hastings during the month, against two in February last year. In Bankruptcy: During February four petitions in bankruptcy were filed at tfie Supreme Court. Napier, the number being the same as in February of last year.

Customs Revenue: Customs revenue collected at Napier during February shows a decline on that collected in the same month in 1928 the returns for the two periods being as follow, 1928 being shown in parenthesis Customs duties £18,239 9/6 (£22,684 3/11) beer duty £725 9/3 (£1153 1/10), miscellaneous duties £3096 5/4 (£955 1/10); totals, £22,061 4/1 7/7). BUILDING—HASTINGS. The Hastings borough building inspector forwards the following for February :— Value. £ 8 new dwellings J( 3 additions to dwellings ... 493 3 motor sheds 90 4 additions to business premises 200 . 1 shop 790 1 motor garage 000 1 additions to High School 2480 21 permits 11,077 For the corresponding month in 1928, 17 permits were issued of a total value of £8,643. A total of 225 permits were issued since Ist April, 1928. of a total value of £89,402, and for the corresponding period in 1928. 193 nermits were granted of a total value of £110,049. Build ng (Napier): Namer experienced a quiet time in the building line during February as the value of work sanctioned totalled onlv £5,378, as against £10,964 for February, 1928. Included in the permits issued were three for new dwellings.
