Tho Hon. G. W. Forbes, Minister of Lands, was entertained at a social gathering last night by the Auckland executive of the United Party. Mr. Davy, the party organiser, said that if it had not been for Mr. Forbes there would have been no United Party for he had made the decision whereby the National Party linked up with the United Party. Mr. Forbes congratulated Auckland on the splendid performance that it had put up in the recent elections. It was the finest record of any part of New Zealand considering the number of members who were commonly thought to be rooted beyond shifting (Press Association.)

The executive of the New Zealand Employers’ Association has decided unanimously to recommend Mr Louis John Schmitt as employers’ representative on the Arbitration Court. Mr Schmitt is at present attached to the Department of Industries and Commerce as advising accountant. A special meeting of the Unions of Employers will be called to consider the executive’s recommendation, and if it is adopted Mr Schmitt will be nominated. Mr Schmitt was born at Melbourne in 1885. He is of British parentage his grandfather having been naturalised as a British subject in Melbourne in 1884. Before jointhg the Department of Industries and Commerce Mr Schmitt served with several big corporations and departments of State in Australia.
