MOUNTED POLICE
GUARD ADELAIDE WHARVES VOLUNTEERS AND UNIONISTS WORK TOGETHER. HOMES STONED. (United Press Association—By Cable— Copyright.] (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.] (Received 22, 8.30 a.m.) Adelaide, Jan. 22. The wharves are quiet, mounted troopers guarding them. Nearly all the available volunteers are working, but there are still 600 waterside unionists unemployed. A similar number of their comrades are working alongside the volunteers. Several volunteers’ homes were stoned during the week-end. Some stated that if better protection were not given they would take on the job themselves and there would be no half measures. It is significant that the mounted police are now armed with service revolvers. •
