FIRST ROUND COMPLETED. HERETAUNGA AND T.C.0.8. DR AIV. The first round of the senior competition of the Hawke’s Bay Cricket Association was brought to a conclusion on Saturday when conditions fur play were ideal. Wickets were hard and outfields fast, while the sky was clear. For the first time this season a draw was recorded. Heretnunga, in their reply to the 339 made by ’Technical Olil Boys the previous week, batted all the afternoon to make 269 runs for seven wickets.

In the other game United collapsed in the second innings and gave High School Old Boys a four point victory by an innings and 42 runs. Technical Old Boys is now leading in the championship by five points. H. 5.0.8. fill second place with eight points and Heretaunga is third with seven. HERETAUNGA v. T.C.0.8. The previous week Technical Old Boys had batted all day and knocked up 339. On Saturday Heretaunga commenced the reply. The two Beuths donned the pads first and gave the side a start of 48, Merle going out first. Shortly afterwards his brother was dismissed and Mitchell was joined by Gilbertson. The run-getting was slow and at the interval the score was 81 for two wickets. Mitchell saw the century go up and gave way to Kavanagh, who made a stand with Gilbertson. A hundred runs were added before a separation was effected, Kavanagh being bowled for 45. Gilbertson did not score many more runs before he sent up an easy catch to Shepherd. Gilbertson had l batted like an artist in a chanceless innings of 78. Heretaunga was content to play out time rather than force the pace for a victory. Two more wickets fell before stumps were drawn with Heretaunga 269 runs on for seven wickets and the game was a draw. Details:—
