THE PICTURE HOUSES

MUNICIPAL. It was the customs of the primitive mountaineer folk that inspired the humorous satire ou mountaineer life and ways, “The Big Killing,” in which Paramount’s two famous comedy men, Wallace Beery and Raymond Hatton, play. The story centres around a family feud in the mountains, and is another marry satire on human life. In this picture, the trivial incidents which inspire men to hatred and war are reviewed from a humorous angle, without distortion, but with plenty of fun. The inter-family warfare is serious enough but the whole situation is cleverly subordinated to the comic element. Throughout the picture a romantic love story is woven with Mary Brain and Gardner James in the principal roles. The parts of the six sons are played by James Mason, Ralph Yearsley, Ethan Lairlaw. Leo Willis, Buck Moulton and Robert Kortman. COSY DE LUXE. “The Branded Sombrero,” Buck Jones’ latest production, which came to the Cosy Theatre on Saturday, is the story of an adopted son’s fight to retain the family name. The dying man, full of remorse, begs his two sons to return the stock or their equivalent. Pointing to the battered sombrero, John Hallett explains that the hat was the key to the whole situation. The brand of every ranch and the amount of cattle stolen are marked on the sombrero. How Buck repair the debt is a graphic story.
