A NEW CITADEL

NAPIER SALVATION ARMY HEADQUARTERS

OFFICIAL OPENING The Salvation Army’s fine new citadel in Carlyle street, Napier, was opened on Saturday afternoon by Mrs. Commissioner Hay. before a large attendance of the übfic. In performing the opening ceremony Mrs. Hay said that all were pleased that the day had come when Salvationists could enter with dignity and assurance into their new building. All the difficulties in connection with it had been happily overcome and now it stood, a beautiful and glorious house of God. After the door had heen unlocked by Mrs. Hay the general public entered the building where a short service was held. The Mayor (Mr. J. Vigor Brown), in reply to the welcome extended by Mrs. Hay, congratulated the Army on its fine building and trusted that it would prove invaluable in the furthering of their great work. The Rev. B. Met son then gave expression to the good fellowship which had always existed between the ministers of Napier and Salvation Army officers. Brigadier Scott, in presenting the financial statement, said their was still a debit of nearly £l,OOO on the building but he was sure that it would soon be met, as a generous response was bound to come from the Napier people. The building was erected by Mr. A. B. Davis, who was complimented upon the fine work that he had put into it.
