WAIPUKURAU.

NEWS AND NOTES. (Special Representative.) Loyal Tavistock Lodge of Manchester Oddfellows has nominated Bro. J. Bendeich, P.G., a veteran officer of the Order, as a candidate for election to the office of Deputy District Grand Master at the forthcoming Hawke's Bay district conference of the Order. The Waipukurau Borough Council is to hold its monthly meeting tonight. The Waipukurau Fire Brigade decided not to send a team to compete at the United Fire Brigade Association’s annual meeting to be held at Hokitika in March next. It has, however, appointed Foreman Stewart Annand to represent the brigade at the conference. The humid conditions that have marked the past fortnight in Central Hawke’s Bay have served to consider, ably change the appearance of the pastures with the more developed grasses, but the occasional showers have served to provide fresh growth. It is evident that only for a brief period is it likely that typical Hawke’s Bay dryness be a feature of the landscape. Naturally picnic and bathing nastimes are very popular during each week-end and at Waipukurau yesterday the Tuki Tuki river, also Mt. Herbert and Lindsay Bush reserves attracted many patrons. Mr. D. B. Kent, solicitor, who has been a sufferer of late from a foot becoming septic, is now able to be around again. Master Harold Green, who underwent an operation for appendicitis in the Waipukurau Hospital last week, is well forward on the road towards recovery.
