WAIROA’S ANNUAL FIXTURE

PROSPECTS BRIGHT. Wairoa holds its annual fixture on Tuesday and Thursday and judging by the acceptances good sport is in store for the Wairoa folk. Hastings .tables are well represented. » • • The Trial Handicap, 6 furlongs, opens the fixture. Nightwitch, prior to leaving here,' was galloping very well. lago has an open race to his credit. Patutahi and Autumn Eve, from Gisborne, are considered fair in their class. Bay d’Oro and Acrerate are backward at present although the former is on the improve. Winnington’s second to Kaihoro at Waipukurau gives the daughter of Valkyrian and Chime a chance. Nightwitch, lago and Winnington appear most likely to be most favoured on the machine.

Six have made acceptance in the Te Kupenga Hack, 6 furlongs. Plimmerton (8.8) before going away was responsible for one or two particularly smart gallops. Dimmer, at one time trained by J. T, Jamieson at Auckland, has speed and may trouble tho Hastings gelding. Evensong has but little to recommend him. Tan is a useful sort. Plimmerton, Dimmed and Tan may be the favourites on the machine.

Next comes the Wairoa Cup. If miles. Huikai has not gone up. King Willonyx, on account of his first and second last week at Opotiki, will find plenty of support. Princess Nata, on past form appeals. Gordon Swift may lack the condition at present to run out the full distance. Abisogne is fancied, but will need to improve vastly on bis recent showing in the Jumpers’ Flats at Hastings. King Willonyx, Princess Nata and Abisogne may be the favourites.

The majority entered for the Maiden Scurry, 5 furlongs, are unknown quantities. Trisogne’s second to Bernera at Hastings entitles him to consideration. The Australian-bred Bold Front at one time enjoyed a reputation and has run second both at Ellerslie and Avondale, but still being a maiden at six-years-old has little to recommend him. King Mann should now be sufficiently seasoned to run up to early promise. Golden Area and Princess Elizabeth are decided possibilities. Trisogne, King Manu and Golden Area, all from here, may be the best backed on the machine.

The District Handicap, 6 furlongs, is open for horses owned and trained in tlje district. On past showings Manutai, Rakaroa and Wilfred may be the favourites.

Five will face the starter in the Stewards’ Handicap. 6 furlongs. Jeanette (9.3) if in the form of last autumn when she won the Flying in Hastings would he at a “Gloaming” price. The last day at Awapuni, although out of a place, she showed a glimpse of returning to form. Lipsol, with the 51b. apprentice allowance, will carry 8.7, so with this pull over the topweight he should give a good account of himself. Startle is useful. Good Sport at 7.7 must me dangerous, despite tho fact that he has inot won for ages. Night Song makes up the field. Three that may carry tho most money are Good Sport, Lipsol and Jeanette.

Most of the acceptors in the Rauwn Hack, 7 furlongs, are engaged earlier in the day. Break o’ Day is a fresh one. Plimmerton, Nightwitch and Break o’ Day may be the popular choice on the machine.

The Ormond Handicap. 1 mile, concludes the first day’s programme and of the, seven left in six have previous engagements. Should they bo saddled up tho second time. Princess Nata, Abisogne and Jen may be the favourites. Tlio lai tor is now a better horse than at any previous time of his career.
