PUREBRED PIGS
IMPORTATIONS FROM CANADA.
Another shipment of purebred Canadian swine arrived recently at Auckland from Vancouver.
Some time ago Mr. j. 8. Mexted, of Wellington, requested Dr. A. Knight, provincial lime stock commissioner, Canada, .to purchase the grand champion Yorkshire boar and sow at last year’s Toronto Royal Winter Fair, which were bred and exhibited bv the Manitoba Agricultural College. The college authorities, however, declined to sell these animals, so a compromise was reached whereby Mr. Mexted was given a sow that had been placed reserve to the Royal Winter Fair champion at a Manitoba fair. Before shipment the sow was bred to the grand champion boar, so the litter should consist of some high class pigs.
Mr. William Gilbert, Murrayville, also shipped a •Berkshire boar and sow to Ross and Co., Wellington, by the same steamer, and will make a further shipment later.
