HASTINGS STARR-BOWKETT

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Hastings Starr-Bowkett Building Society was held in the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club rooms last evening, Mr T. Honnor presiding. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted, and Messrs Rainbow and Hobbs were reappointed shareholders’ auditors for the ensuing year. The sale of £5OO in the No. 4 Issue realised £3l per £lOO. When discussing the balance-sheet, Mr G. F. Roach stressed the fact that since the inception of the Society over £lOO,OOO had been let out in loans, a good deal of which had gone into building homes for the people of Hustings and surrounding districts. These figures were actual truths that could not be contradicted, and showed’that the Society had materially helped in the advancement of Hastings. The chairman and others spoke enthusiastically regarding the proposed new issue, and the secretary stated that already applicaiions for nearly sufficient shares to float the issue had been received.
