ENGLISH COUNTY GAMES BIC SUSSEX V. MIDDLESEX SCORES. WEST INDIES * GLAMORGAN DRAW. London, August 7. Rain on the first and third days interfered with play in the county matches, and stopped some games. Sussex in their first innings scored 496 (Duleepsinhji 125, Bowley 122, Tate 102; Robins four for 34). Middlesex replied in their first with 497 (Killick 140; Hendren 158). Middlesex won on the just innings. Kent lost seven wickets in their initial innings for 309 and declared (Hardinge 73. Ashdown 87J, while Somerset were equal to only 100 (Marriot four for 33). Somerset followed on for 195 (Hunt 53- Creswell 58) Marriot five for 44), leaving Kent the winners by an innings and 14 runs. Surrey opened with 26S (Hobbs 93; Sam Staples five for 113) and in their second innings lost three for 183 (Hobbs 85 not out, Ducat 56). Nottinghamshire registered 324 in their first (Whysall 129), and thus won on the first innings. Yorkshire's first total reached 352 (Sutcliffe 126, Holmes 54; MacDonald six for 144). Lancashire retaliating with 244 for three (Watson 110, Makepeace 82 not out). There was no play on the third day, so the match was drawn.

Gloucestershire knocked up 368 in the first strike (Hammond 67, Dipper 67. Seabrook 107), and in the second declared with, six down for 207 (Seahrook 69 not out). Hampshire could manage only 150 to begin with (Sinfield four for 29), but went on in the second to score 264 for four (Newman 92, Mead 117 not out). Gloucester won on the first innings. Essex’s first innings closed for 440 (O’Connor 94, Nicholls 58, Russell 153; Root six for 104), and in the second 250 fot five declared (Crawley 55, Cutmore 69, O’Connor 60). Worcestershire responded in their first with 354 (Quaife. 76, Gibbons 56, Palmer five for 80), and scored 97 in the second for none (Wright 57 not out). Essex won on the first innings. West Indies finished the first innings with 327 on the board (Challoner 55. Nunes 127 not out), and the second with 161 (Ryan seven for 62). Glamorgan’s first effort reached 256 (Riches 65, Small five for 52), and the second 100 for three. Rain paused a stoppage, and the match was drawn.

For Warwickshire against Derbyshire. Bates soored 90, W. Quaife 115 not out, Parsons 114, Oalthorpe 71 not out, and Durnell captured five for 63. For Derbyshire, Storer made 61. Bowden 92 nnd Lee 52 not out. Warwickshire won. For Northamptonshire against Leicestershire, Brown compiled 59, and Wright bagged five for 84. For Leicestershire.
