THOUSANDS DRIFTING AWAY STRONG N.Z. COMPETITION. PREMIER REFUTES GLOOMY SPEECH. [United Press Association—By CableCopy right, j [Australian and N.Z, Press AbbuJ (Received 9, 9.0 a.m.) Vancouver, Aug. 8. A message from Antigonish states that Mr. ft.. B. Bennett, the Tory leader, who is touring Nova Scotia, declared that 591,000 people have left Canada in six years and only 573,000 were brought in. There was no work, and people were leaving the country. Why were there no jobs? For the year ending May 31. Canada purchased 15,000,0001b5. of butter and sold 5001b5., yet only two years ago Canada sold 25,000,0001b5. There were 25,000 cases of New Zealand butter on order. Canadian farmers were being placed in unfair competition with New Zealand producers. Canadian butter was being displaced by that from New Zealand, and herds were being depleted. What was going to happen? Under these circumstances it was no wonder that people were leaving the country. Speaking at Davidson, Saskatchewan. in reply to Mr. Bennett, the Premier, the Hon W. L. Mackenzie King, refuted Mr Bennett’s “blue ruin talk,” declaring that the prosperity of Canada was almost unprecedented.
