HAWKE’S BAY BOARD. BROOKFIELDS BRIDGE. The monthly meeting of thn Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board was held in Napier to-day. Present ; Messrs J. A. Miller (chairman), G. Purves, T. Donovan. W. W. Smart, C. W. Hellyer, J. Macdonald, G. Latham, H. R. Clark and W. G. Jarvis. The Hawke’s Bav County Council wrote in regard to the Brookfields bridge, stating that it would be demolished in accordance with a statement made at a conference that it was no longer safe for traffic. Mr. Miller said that he understood that a further report was to be received from the council’s engineer. It was agreed to write to the council, stating that it would be pleased to have the engineer’s report on the matter. WAITANGI BRIDGE.

A further letter was received from the Hawke’s Bay County Council iu regard to the Waitangi bridge, asking the board to confirm a statement mat it was intended to provide for the main waters of the Tutaekuri river to flow under an enlarged Waitangi bridge. The matter was held over until * decision was arrived at in connection with the report of the investigating committee. OVERSEER’S REPORT. The overseer (Mr. P. Scullin) reported on the work done for the month as follows:— Tuki Tuki. Plantation at Upper Te Mata has been extended five chains and planting has been don* between Te Mata and East Clive, at a cost of £B3 15/11. Pakowhai: Raising the TutaekuriWlimate bank cost £4 10/-. Roy’s Hill: To planting willows and silver poplars and putting in fsscene. Cost for month £49 3/3. Fernhill to Pakowhai: Twenty unemployed married men are engaged on clearing work at Twyford. The cost for the month was £2Ol 17/3. Omahu to Pakowhai; Clearing young growth. Cost for month £ll 14/6. Tractor, Glazebrook's Bend: Scooping channel (good progress has been made on this job), cost to date £125. Moteo Plantation: To replanting, lopping trees and repairing fence. Cost for month £46 lt/9. Meeanee Bank: This bank is being raised in places that were topped by the flood on May 80 last and has cost to date £77 18/9. Meeanee to Napier: To clearing willows from rive: channel good progress has been made and has cost to date £25 13/1. New alignment for Taradale-Meeanep bank near Otatsra, 38 chains of new bank, average height six feet. Estimated cost of bank £275. fencing £l5, tots! £290. I would recommend that this bank be erected as it would giye better protection to Taradale and Greenmeadows and the piece of land between the present and proposed new bnnk could be greatly improved. Tutaekuri-Omarunui: Portions of the river bank are bare and exposed to erosion and would need dentine; also 50 chains of fence, which is in very had repair. Estimated cost of repairing, fence and planting £6O.
