THE VAGARIES OF FASHION
Dame Fashion is a contrary jade, as changeable as a spring day. You may coerce her, coax her, ignore her—it is all one to her. The Pope recently tried to enforce the wearing of more “modest” dresses, the skirts longer, the sleeveless styles banished, but it was no use—women continued to follow the dictates of Fashion. But, apparently satisfied that she has gone her own sweet way and triumphed over the dictates of mere man ,next season is apparently to see the revival of . longer Skirts, longer sleeves, and, perhaps, longer hair. Everything, seemingly, is to be longer, including the bills, but not,alas I the evenings, since the Summer Time Bill has been killed and interred. i
