Standen immediately jumping ahead. Ho further improved his position round the turn, where Gray was slightly crowded in. On time an awkward situation was created, both men taking 1 min 14 3-5 secs, though in Gray’s case one watch registered 1 min 15 1-5 secs. This is tho best time on trial Gray has ever done. Both were hampered by a number of other competitors training on tho Stadium track. A selection is to bo made this afternoon.

Tho test was necessary because Stautlon and Gray were sent over under tho impression that each nation was «llowed two competitors in the 1000 metres event, whereas only one is permitted.
