SATURDAY’S GAMES WHAKATU EASILY DEFEATED. HASTINGS DEFEATS NAPIER I.M, % - Hastings United and AVhakatu met. on Cornwall Park, Hastings, on Saturday, Whakatu playing without McLaughlin and McCulloch. Whakatu won the toss and United kicked off against the wind and immediately got away, H, Penman putting across and A, Clark missing an easy opening in the first minute. United got down on the right and Lawry saved a good shot from Farnell. Whakatu then advanced but W. Penman kicked out. From the throw in Lowe put across, United conceding a corner. Still keeping up an attack Lowe put behind. From a throw-in United’s left got going and fl. Penman put across a nice centre. Whakatu conceded a corner which was ineffective. United kept up the pressure. Lawry punching away a well-placed l shot, Whakatu were playing a pretty midfield game but were getting ’ little support from their weak half-back line, which was kept very busy by the energetic United men, Lawry saved once again from a shot by D. Penman. Lawry was getting plenty of work in goal and playing a really fine game, ALL EQUAL. Conroy next placed nicely into goal, H. Penman heading over the bar.
