(Per Press Association.l Len Humphrey, of Konini. a settler and weil-knowu footballer, when sawing wood with a cross-cut saw. slipped and severed the middle toe of his right foot. He was admitted to the nubile hospital at Pahiatua. As a result of a collision with a motor-cyclist in Invercargill last evening William George Mills, aged 15, who was riding a bicycle, was admitted to hospital suffering from a fractured jaw and a cut on a leg. The death on May 13 of Mrs Jane Rankin Stobo, aged 69. who was knocked down by a bicycle, on which were two schoolboys, on May 1. formed the subject of an inquiry before the coroner, Mr G. Cruickshank in Invercargill yesterday. Medical evidence showed that the deceased suffered from a fracture a s the base of the skull. She partially recovered consciousness for a few days, and the lapsed into unconsciousness and died o heart failure. The coroner returned a verdict that the deceased diedfrom a fracture of the skull as a result of being knocked down by a bicycle ridden by schoolboys.

Cecilia Genevieve Galiwan. a married woman, aged 38 years, was found dead by her husband at their home in Cornwall street, Lyttelton early yesterday afternoon. She had a gas jet beneath her head. Suicide of unsound mind was the verdict returned by the coroner. Mr E. D. Mosley. S.M.. at a subsequent inquest. The woman had been ill for’ several weeks, and had developed melancholia.

Hugh Parker, aged 20, employed at the Ocean Beach (Invercargill) freezing, works, met with a distressing accident yesterday. He was handling a shotgun and put his hand over the muzzle, when it accidentallv discharged, and so badly mutilated hi R hand that he had to be removed to hospital and have two fingers amputated He i s progressing favourably.
